Using Data Insights to Drive Smarter Marketing and Sustainable Growth at Legal Island

Legal Island is a workplace compliance company operating across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It offers training, events, and digital tools tailored to HR professionals and the legal sector.

The Challenge

In 2024, Legal Island aimed to grow revenue by 10%. Despite investing in digital systems, the team faced a skills gap in data analytics. They needed actionable insights from customer data to support smarter marketing, boost cross-selling, and foster innovation.

The Solution

Partnering with the Hartree Centre NI Hub, Legal Island launched a data analysis project that merged and transformed key customer datasets. The team segmented customers by behaviour, pricing preference, and event type. Trend and loyalty analysis helped uncover patterns that could inform targeted marketing and customer engagement strategies.

“Working with Hartree and Ulster University was a seamless experience. They quickly grasped our goals and challenges, and the data scientist communicated clearly and consistently throughout. Jade provided excellent guidance on what data was needed and why, and the team was patient and thorough in addressing our questions. Their professionalism and expertise made the entire process smooth and productive. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hartree and Ulster University to any organisation seeking support with data analysis.”

Project Impact

The project created a foundation for data-driven decision-making across the business. Legal Island now understands which customers return annually, who prefers online vs. in-person events, and where cross-selling opportunities lie. Sales and marketing teams can proactively engage high-potential customers and those at risk of dropping off. These insights support accurate forecasting, improve customer retention, and underpin strategic growth. With plans to incorporate AI-powered predictive analytics in future phases, the company is well-positioned for continued innovation and competitive advantage in the employment law compliance sector.
